Over the years, I received a wide range of required professional development. Some of these courses were irrelevant to my field while others permanently altered the way I taught.
After discovering training based on the Science of Reading, I had finally found my people! I was like a sponge soaking up everything that would help grow my struggling readers.
I was motivated and driven to come back to my classroom and implement these newly learned strategies. I could not wait to bridge the gap for those who struggled the most. But there were still obstacles. In fact, it felt like one obstacle after another.
The strategies seemed to work for some students but not others. I felt defeated. I went to other teachers, curriculum specialists, and even the leaders of the school seeking guidance in overcoming these barriers. But no one could provide a clear protocol for removing these obstacles for the kids that struggled the most.
SCIENCE OF READING COACH
Hi, I'm Christi
Hi! I’m Christi, a Science of Reading Coach. I love teaching phonics, grammar, comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, and written expression. Basically, I love teaching ALL THINGS LITERACY! Teaching literacy energizes me. It brings me a great sense of accomplishment when a student exclaims, “I can read now!” Yes, that is music to my ears!
My goal is to help you get to a place where you feel so confident in your literacy instruction that you cannot wait to implement the lesson. You will design lessons that are structured for student success and so engaging that the kids who hate reading will secretly begin to enjoy your class.

What People are Saying
"My son began to struggle with reading in Kindergarten. He did not respond to traditional methods taught in school. He was frustrated and became insecure. Christi identified the learning issue immediately and was able to increase his reading skills, build confidence, and educate me along the way. Now I can advocate for my child. Christi is knowledgeable, positive and passionate about helping students who struggle with reading."
Wendy, Parent
"I saw children struggling to read and spell at our school. We used balanced literacy strategies and lessons that were not working. Christi taught us how to increase all components of literacy into our reading instruction. She didn’t shy away from students with learning differences. She ran toward them. Christi was also prescriptive in her training. She reads the room, understands the needs of the teachers and responds. Christi was willing and available to help with issues no matter how big or small. "
Jenny, Curriculum & Professional Development Director
"The students in my small group were on different levels and working at different paces. It felt like I was holding some back. I was responsible for a whole class but felt frozen, not knowing which route to take. I tried to read the information online but couldn't find the specific answers. When I contacted Christi, she was quick to respond to emails/texts with a list of resources and answers. Her explanations were practicial and came with a how and a why. My two biggest breakthroughs were implementing activities that increased student engagement and developing detailed vocabulary lessons. Literacy Lane provides a safe place to share so that we can grow our students.."
